Annual General Meeting of Italian-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce October 30, 2018.
The Italian-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce notes the announcement of the Icelandic Government that capital controls have been lifted with effect on Tuesday. The Government of Iceland today announces that capital controls on the country's individuals, firms, and pension funds have been lifted with effect on Tuesday. The removal of the capital controls, which stabilised the currency and economy during the country's unprecedented financial crash, represents the completion of Iceland's return to international financial markets.

Icelandic President Gušni Th. Jóhannesson sent his and the Icelandic nations condolences to Italian President Sergio Mattarella and the Italian nation, following yesterdays deadly earthquake in the Aquila region of central Italy. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lilja Alfrešsdóttir also sent letter of condolences to Paolo Gentiloni, Minister of Foreign Affairs in Italy and to the Italian nation.
Last friday there was a small eruption in Holuhraun, near Bárðarbunga. This eruption took place outside the glacier Vatnajökull, which means that it was not a subglacial eruption. The volcano alert has been raised to red, but a couple of hours later it was on orange.

Italy's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Franco Frattini, declared full support to Iceland's application to the European Union during a meeting he had this morning with Ossur Skarphedinsson, Minister for Foreign Affairs. Frattini encouraged Icelanders to consult with Italians if complications would arise during negotiations, and said he understood the importance of fisheries for Iceland's economy.
